Kastellorizo Island
Kastellorizo or Megisti is a Greek island in the eastern Mediterranean, about three miles from the Turkish coast. Located 120 km east of Rhodes and covers 9113 square kilometers. In public, the island is known from the Oscar-winning film << Mediterraneo >>!
Maximum is the official name of the island and it was because it was the biggest of all the small islands in the region.
The name Kastellorizo << Castello Rosso >> is Latin and means red castle because of the red color on which was built the citadel of the island. The houses are built in two or three storeys high with colored shutters are authentic examples of traditional architecture of the Dodecanese.
